Our blog has been pretty quiet lately. The hard thing about writing this blog is that it seems there’s not a lot of good news. We’ve both been ranging from feeling a little sick to very sick. It’s a mixture of the cancer(s) and the chemo(s). Right now our lives are focused mostly getting through the day.
Paul had an infusion last Sunday to build up his bone strength after they found that he has a spinal fracture and lesions from the cancer having metastasized. It’s painful for him and makes moving around difficult – especially sleeping (prone position). He is supposed to get the infusions monthly for at least 2 years. The drug he’s on for bone repair (Zometa) can be pretty nasty and give you strong flu-like symptoms for 3-4 days. Hopefully, this and the daily chemo he’s on will stop the cancer from metastasizing further.
Tim has been off chemo for almost 3 weeks now. While being off chemo helps make him feel less sick, the pancreatic cancer itself continues to grow and that makes him sick. His last resort is a newly approved drug that he will start on Friday. This chemo treatment is more complicated because, in addition to getting the first infusion on Friday, he has to wear an IV drip for 2 days while he’s home. Then, it gets it taken out on Sunday. Like most chemos, this new drug can have pretty unpleasant side-effects.
We really appreciate all the support and offers of help. So far, we've been managing to drive and do a few necessary errands. Unfortunately, mostly this means driving back and forth to Kaiser. Having food delivered anything is still pretty low on our need list, but thanks for the many offers. We will continue to reach out when we need something. Thanks!
